How dental hygienist Tracie Perry was able to land a great dental hygiene job in about 30 days…
In 2010, Tracie graduated from dental hygiene school with only a hope that she would find a job. She had no connections with dentists – the only one she knew was the one we were seeing every six months and there were no prospects there.
She worked briefly in the industry (a year as an assistant to an endodontist… 15 years earlier). So, Tracie (in her upper 30s) was starting over.
Having spent my entire career (roughly 16 years at that point) in the field of marketing and communications, motivating buyers to purchase products and services, I learned lots about motivating and influencing people.
As Tracie’s job search went from days to weeks to months, her disappointment and confidence were becoming an issue. Then one day it hit me – Tracie had the skill and enthusiasm but wasn’t differentiating herself from other job seekers.
That was a game-changer. After a few weeks of coaching, re-working her resume, and creating additional interesting materials, interviews and job offers started coming in. In fact, it all happened so fast we didn’t have time to roll out every strategy – there were still some great ideas left in the toolbox. But it didn’t matter – it was clear there is a lot more hygienists can do to land a great job.
I outline all of these tools and strategies in our book “Landing A Great Dental Hygiene Job” (released in 2012, second edition in 2013). In its first year of being offered online more than 3,000 copies were downloaded. Today it continues to be a popular download and has been spun off into on-demand training webinars for students and professionals through this website.
Following the book, I’ve added consulting and resume writing services to what I do. My services are frequently referred out by happy clients in hundreds of dental hygiene Facebook groups across the world. I’ve written well over 1,500 resumes for dental hygienists seeking clinical and non-clinical jobs, and been published in RDH Magazine, DentistryIQ, and HygieneTown Magazine. I’ve also been a featured guest on numerous dental hygiene podcasts, including three different episodes on A Tale of Two Hygienists and have spoken at conferences all over the county in state and local dental hygiene components, as well as dental hygiene schools and study groups.
I have lots of samples and examples on this website. So, take a look around, e-mail or call me if you have any questions – I’d love to make YOU my next success story!
