Well, 2014 is still new but under way. Many have you have set some goals and perhaps one of them has to do with employment as a dental hygienist.
We’ve had lots of new subscribers to our weekly updates lately so I know there are thousands of you out there hoping this will be the year you land a great job. Hopefully you find the tips useful and you share them with friends.
I’ve so much enjoyed working with many of you over the past several months one-on-one with your resumes and postcards. It’s so cool to hear about your successes and the extra effort you are putting in to land your dream job.
This week I want to go back to something I touched on a couple months ago in terms of adding color to your resume. I really believe in the psychology of color. I think people really do react and respond differently to different colors.
Your resume is no different. When an employer opens it up and sees a theme but not color or shade, just black and white, you are sending a message that your resume is like everyone else’s (95% by the way, only do black and white) – is that really what you want? With how competitive dental hygiene jobs have become these days I think it’s really wise to ensure you are doing everything you can to stand out and appear different.
So I came across a really cool infographic that dives deep into the psychology of color and what message. I guess the only message I would add to this that there really is no wrong color as long as it’s not wrong for you. So when you choose something, make sure it matches your personality and your brand. I’m going to talk about branding yourself in the next week or two but color is a key part of that. So take a look and choose a color or simple color scheme that best represents you (your brand).
